How do I scan a label?
Open the app, point the camera at the ingredient list so it fills the frame, and tap the shutter. SafeBite reads the text on your device and checks it against the allergens in your active profile.
Why doesn't SafeBite ever say a food is "safe"?
By design. SafeBite is a screening aid, not a verdict. A scan that finds none of your allergens shows "No listed allergens found — read the full label," never a green "safe" all-clear. The most dangerous moment in any allergen app is a false all-clear, so we never give one.
What does it mean when it says "Couldn't read clearly"?
If the print was faded, curved, glare-lit, or partly cut off, SafeBite tells you the read isn't reliable instead of guessing. Move into brighter, even light, fill the frame with the ingredient list, avoid glare, and rescan — or read the label yourself.
Can it catch "may contain" / shared-equipment warnings?
It surfaces precautionary phrases when they are printed and it can read them, but cross-contact risk is often not on the label at all. SafeBite cannot assess unprinted cross-contact — always read the full label and, when in doubt, contact the manufacturer.
How do I add my allergens and set up profiles?
Open Profiles, tap + Add allergen on a profile to add a built-in or custom allergen and set its severity. Create multiple profiles (for example, one per family member) and switch who you're scanning for with one tap from the scan screen. Long-press an allergen or profile to remove it.
Can I add a custom allergen that isn't in the list?
Yes. Type any name when adding an allergen, and optionally add comma-separated alias hints (hidden names) you want SafeBite to also flag for it.
Do my scans get uploaded anywhere?
Never. All reading and matching happen on your device. SafeBite has no servers for your data and makes no network connection with your photos, label text, profiles, or history. See our Privacy Policy.
What does SafeBite Unlimited unlock, and is it a subscription?
SafeBite is free, including every safety feature. After a generous number of free scans, a one-time purchase — never a subscription — removes the scan limit. Pay once, scan forever.
I reinstalled or got a new phone. How do I get Unlimited back?
Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchase. Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID and restores for free.
